Background: 7,250 islands, with an area of 300,00 sq. km make up the country of the Philippines. The largest islands are Luzon in the north and Mindanao in the south. The nation's capital, Manila, is located on Luzon. The are subject to frequent devastating typhoons. They have a high literacy rate of 95% with English and Tagalog the official languages. Originally a Spanish colony from 1565 to 1898 when the USA took over following the Spanish American war. Under USA rule until independence in 1946. Current Involvement: God's Kids has partnered with Kingdom Adventures to purchase land in Bohol to build the Village of Hope. The vision for Village of Hope is to build a village made up of twenty homes that will each house ten children. The center would include a church and a Christian school. The center will create a safe haven for hurting children. Life on the streets in the Philippines can be scary for anyone, let alone a child. Future Projects and Costs: Now that the land is purchased, the next phase is to begin building structures. Approximately $6,000 is needed for the construction phase. |
